The new season is off and running.... with all the “headaches” of getting started - fruit and vegetable maturity, weather, and labor still in transit. Looks just like any other year .......

The Farm Labor Contractor Registration and Testing Office has completed their move into their new location in the Department of Business and Professional Regulation. The mailing address for this office is 1940 North Monroe Street, Tallahassee, Florida 32399-1041. The phone and fax numbers are the same - telephone (850)488-3131 and fax (850)488-0512. Please remember this is a busy time of year for this office - please allow 4 weeks for your FLC card renewals and changes. Please note that all fees for crew leader card renewals ($75.00) should now be made out to the Department of Business & Professional Regulation - and not the Department of Labor! Please call our office if you have any questions about the Department changes.

The new posting requirement from the State of Florida that took effect on July 1st has been finalized. The Department has issued a new “broken arm” poster that has the fraud information on it. You can continue to use the old “broken arm” poster as long as you have either the fraud poster we had in our last newsletter or the stickers we have made up for your posters. The new posters are being requested but will probably not be back from the printers until later this fall. This is now a good time to re-check all of your work place postings - please call CHAPP loss control with any questions!

A new electronic Unemployment Tax filing requirement takes effect January 1, 2003! The Department of Revenue has a new requirement effective January 1, 2003 requiring employers who had 10 or more employees in any calendar quarter in the 12 months ending June 30th report and pay their Unemployment Tax electronically for the quarter ending March 31, 2003 (first quarter of 2003). Businesses have to enroll in this new service with the Department prior to January 1, 2003. Please see your bookkeeping or tax professional or visit the Department of Revenue’s web site at http://www.myflorida.com/dor/ .

A new season means time to review safety with your crew leaders, supervisors, and drivers! The new season brings a great opportunity to review with your key personnel your safety policies and concerns to make sure they have all the “tools” necessary to help you run a safe operation. Our loss control staff has hand out materials, check lists, vehicle inspection forms, etc., to help with any safety concern for your operation - from training to company policies. Please don’t hesitate to all our loss control staff with your requests or concerns - we are here to help you maintain a safe work place for your employees.

Fall is here - with hopefully cooler weather! But that also brings us early morning fog - which in most of our work areas can be quite thick. Please remind your drivers of the dangers of fog! If they pull off the roadway make sure they are completely off the road. If they have an accident, please remind them to get away from the accident scene to a place of safety - and keep all employees together out of the way of other traffic. It is better to be late and safe than not arrive at all!

Recuerde por favor que este es el tiempo ocupado del año para esta oficina - permite por favor 4 semanas para sus renovaciones de tarjeta de FLC y cambios. ¡Favor de notar que todos honorarios para renovaciones ($75.00 de tarjeta de líder de tripulación) ahora debe ser hecho al Departamento del Negocio y Regulación Profesional - y no al Departamento del Trabajo! El requisito nuevo que anuncia del Estado de la Florida surtió efecto en julio primero ha sido completado. El Departamento ha publicado un cartel del brazo roto nuevo que tiene la información del fraude en ella. Usted puede continuar usar el cartel viejo de brazo roto tan largo como usted tiene o el cartel del fraude que tuvimos en nuestro último boletín o los letreros engomados que hemos compuesto para su cartel. Los cartel nuevos se solicitan pero probablemente no llegaran de las impresoras hasta luego este invierno. ¡Este es ahora un tiempo bueno de reexaminar todos sus poster del lugar del trabajo - por favor llame a CHAPP control de pérdida con cualquier pregunta!

¡Un requisito electrónico nuevo de archivar de Impuesto de Desempleo surte efecto el 1 de enero de 2003! El Departamento de Impuestos tiene un requisito nuevo efectivo el 1 de enero de 2003 empleadores que requieren que tuvo 10 o más empleados en cualquier cuarto de calendario en el 12 fin de mes junio el informe 30th y paga su Impuesto del Desempleo electrónicamente para el cuarto que finaliza el 31 de marzo de 2003 (primero cuarto de 2003). Los negocios tienen que matricularse en este servicio nuevo con el Departamento antes de el 1 de enero de 2003. ¡Una temporada nueva significa tiempo de revisar la seguridad con sus líderes de la cuadrilla, con los supervisores, y con los conductores! La temporada nueva trae una oportunidad magnífica para revisar con su personal Clave sus Polisas de la seguridad y concierne para cerciorarse ellos tienen todas las "herramientas" necesarias para ayudarlo a correr una operación segura. Nuestro personal de control de la pérdida tiene para repartir las materias, las listas de cheque, formas de inspección de vehículo, etc., para ayudar con cualquier seguridad concierne para su operación - de la instrucción de la polisas de la compañía. Por favor no se detenga a nuestro personal del control de la pérdida con sus pedidos ni concierna - nosotros aquí lo deberemos ayudar a mantener un lugar seguro del trabajo para sus empleados.

¡El Invierno está aquí - con tiempo optimistamente más fresco! Pero eso también nos trae niebla temprano en la mañana - que en la mayor parte de nuestras áreas de trabajo puede ser bastante grueso. ¡Recuerde por favor a sus conductores de los peligros de niebla! Si ellos se salen de camino que esten seguros que estan completamente a fuerra del camino. Si ellos tienen un accidente, por favor les recuerde para huir de la escena del accidente a un lugar segura - y mantener a todos empleados juntos fuera de la area del otro tráfico. ¡Deberá ser mejor tarde y seguro y que no llegar!
