The Latest News (Español) LOSS CONTROL & COMPLIANCE MANAGER As we all look forward to the end of the season don’t forget about safety.... injuries always pick up at the end of each season due to the heat, our mental tiredness, and a rush to get through. Be alert so you and your employees can finish and enjoy your vacation! It’s on all the news - hurricane season approaches - as if we didn’t know that! But now is a good time to think about all your equipment and buildings before you take off for vacation. It is very important to make sure what assets you want covered against loss are included in your insurance policies, that you have all your insurance contact information somewhere other than just in your office, and that you have someone around who can act on your behalf if you are out of town and trouble happens. If you have summer operations, you should also make provisions so that employees can be contacted (cell phone list) and they know your management contact numbers in case the office is unusable. We have checklists and safety sheets here at CHAPP - as do all the major stores and news outlets. Heat and humidity have started their wickedness once again! The heat index will rise with the summer approaching so please remind your supervisors to monitor all workers and make sure that adequate water is available for drinking. Last season, heat-related illness took the lives of several farm workers across Florida. We have available here at CHAPP a training hand-out in both English and Spanish that describes symptoms and treatment of the different levels of heat illness. Please call our office if you would like copies for your employees! With summer come our daily thunderstorms and lightning! Lightning strikes kill 75 - 100 people annually in the United States and we are lucky enough to live and work in Florida - the lightning "capitol"! Please make sure your employees are aware of the dangers of lightning and your supervisors monitor the weather daily to plan their activities. This time of year thunderstorms are a daily occurrence - and a safety hazard to field workers. Florida has about one million cloud-to-ground lightning strikes each year. The number one area for fatalities is in open fields, followed by water related areas, under trees, and driving equipment like farm tractors. These occur mostly in the months of June and July in the afternoon at about 3:45 PM. Training hand-outs are available here at CHAPP to help your employees with lightning awareness! Immigration issues are at this moment being debated in the Senate...... and what happens with this legislation will affect us all. It is very important that you make your voice heard in Washington - whatever your views on these issues! The immigration turmoil has caused some employers to look closer at the H-2A visa program to get a stable workforce. We, here at CHAPP, can help with information on this program and the impact on your business. You can also visit the U.S. Department of Labor web site for information at http://workforcesecurity.doleta.gov/foreign/h-2a.asp . This year, they have also initiated an on-line application form to enter the program. Call us with your H-2A questions! It is with sadness that we report Scott Schneberger leaving our employment. Scott is leaving his "family" here at CHAPP after 8 years to pursue a career in Christian education. On June 1st , he will be starting in the administration of a Christian school in West Orange County. He will be missed by everyone - but most of all his CHAPP "family". We wish him and his family God’s blessings! Coming in August is the annual Southwest Florida Citrus Expo on August 23rd and 24th at the Lee County Convention Center outside Ft. Myers. MANEJOS DE PERDIDA Y GERENTE DE COMPLACENCIA(Conformidad) Ahora que nos dirigimos hacia el fin de esta temporada que no se nos olvide la seguridad..... las heridas siempre aumentan a fines de cada temporada debido al calor, nuestro cansancio mental, y nuestro apuro para acabar. ¡Este alerta para que usted y sus empleados puedan termir y disfrutar sus vacaciones! ¡Está en todas las noticias - la temporada de huracánes se acerca - como si nosotros no sepamos eso. Pero ahora es un tiempo bueno de pensar acerca de todo su equipo y edificios antes de que usted salga de vacaciónes. Es muy importante asegurarse qué los bienes que usted quiera cubrir contra la pérdida sean incluidos en sus pólizas de seguros, que usted tiene toda su información del contacto del seguro en algún lugar mas que en su oficina, y que usted tiene alguien alrededor de que puede seguir su beneficio si usted esta fuera de la ciudad y hay problemas.
